The children down the street play soccer (called football in other countries) nearly every day. They come from different countries and speak several different languages. But in just a few months, all of them are communicating with each other and speaking English — American English.

Their parents go to classes, do assignments, worry about it a lot and struggle with the language for years.

My neighbor once asked me why the children learn the language so fast without even trying, when their parents work so hard at it, but some of them never get much better.

What the children quickly master, as I'm about to reveal to you, is the secret of learning directly with all that is "other than conscious mind." It's the way to eliminate all resistance to learning so you can take in knowledge more efficiently, more deeply, quickly, enjoyably, practically effortlessly and reduce learning blocks. What researchers have discovered is that relaxed play allows children to learn everything else related to the game (including language skills) in a wholistic way that bypasses much of their conscious mind and reaches the deeper reserves of their mind. The Art of Rapid and Effortless Learning

One of the first experiments with accelerated learning was done in Bulgaria in the mid-1960s. Fifteen professionals — architects, engineers, teachers, a judge — aged 22 to 60, gathered in an institute in the heart of Sofia. They were to take part in an experiment they weren't happy about. "We should give up now, it's a waste of time," said one. "Nothing can come of this," said another. Even the instructor felt she was asked to do the impossible.

All day long the instructor recited French phrases in a specific rhythm to special music. At the end of the day, when shadows began to darken the room, the class was given a test.

Somehow, during the sessions, the anxiety levels of the class members had relaxed, tension had released. But they didn't hold much hope for high test scores.

Yet, that is exactly what they got — the class average was 97 percent out of 100. Using the methods originated by the scientist, Dr. Georgi Lozanov, they had learned one thousand words that day — nearly half of the working vocabulary of a language.

Lozanov's rapid-learning methods went directly to their unconscious mind, "Stop learning with your conscious mind. Turn off the stress and start to experience learning with your unconscious mind."

For over 20 years, I've been using accelerated learning in nearly everything I do. I started using it because of a head injury that weakened my memory — working with and adapting Lozanov's techniques.
